Its chemical formula is C8H10, featuring two methyl groups and a benzene ring in its molecular structure. PX exhibits relatively high melting and boiling points of 13.2℃ and 138.4℃, respectively. It is insoluble in water but soluble in organic solvents.
Production Methods of Para-Xylene (P-Xylene)
There are two primary methods for producing Para-Xylene: one involves generating aromatics through catalytic reforming of naphtha, followed by separating P-Xylene from the mixed aromatics; the other produces P-Xylene via the disproportionation reaction of toluene. Currently, the naphtha catalytic reforming method is the predominant production approach. However, due to limited sources of naphtha feedstock and high energy consumption during production, the toluene disproportionation method is gaining increasing attention.
